Young Brits get new finance resource

Young British consumers have been offered a new resource to find out about some of the financial issues they are likely to be facing.

The What About Money website launched by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) is designed to give young people a way of relating more easily with personal finance.

While many parents are looking to give their children a solid financial start to their adult lives through savings vehicles like the child trust fund (CTF), millions of young Britons are already dealing with debt problems.

Indeed, a recent report from the charity group Rainer that showed most 21-year-olds around the country have used debt at some stage had partly prompted the FSA's decision to set up the new website.

"The What About Money website has been designed with the help of young adults specifically for young adults and focuses on the money issues that they themselves have told us they are most interested in," explained the FSA's director of financial capability Chris Pond.

Earlier this year, the Treasury announced that it is to encourage teachers around the country to use CTFs as a way of engaging children with personal finance issues.
