Setting money aside on a regular basis is becoming an increasingly strong priority for many people living in the UK, it has been suggested.
According to recent research by Alliance & Leicester, the UK's ongoing economic slump has prompted millions of people to make cut backs with the aim of saving more effectively.
Saving for children is already a priority for many British parents and the latest figures suggest that more than one in ten people have tried to boost their income by taking a second job or one that pays more generously.
"It is encouraging to see people are making positive changes to their spending and budgeting habits," said Emma Walkley, current account manager at Alliance & Leicester.
"This will hopefully stand them in good stead should they see their disposable income affected over the forthcoming months."
Earlier this week, Steve Urwin, senior marketing executive for Newcastle Building Society, urged British consumers to make sure that they have secured a competitive savings account deal.
