An increasing number of British consumers have started to set money aside on a monthly basis, according to a recent study.
Data from Legal & General shows that close to six per cent more people around the country are now saving each month than was the case 12 months ago.
However, despite the fact that some people have kick-started their efforts in saving for children or for their own future, the latest figures suggest that almost a third now have no money left each month to afford nights out.
Overall, parents were found to have less cash left in their pockets to spend on socialising than their single counterparts, the financial services firm reports.
Julia Clayworth, Legal & General's wealth management head of marketing, said: "It seems that the mood for putting aside a small amount each month as part of a regular savings plan is starting to change."
Meanwhile, the Building Societies Association recently hailed the strong performance by its members in attracting deposits into cash-based individual savings accounts during April.
