Nearly half of non-homeowners in Britain cannot afford to buy their first property, according to recent research.
The study by IFA Promotion found that 49 per cent of adults in the UK cannot afford to get on the first rung of the property ladder, with one in five feeling that they cannot attain home ownership.
Other results of the survey found that 62 per cent of prospective buyers felt that home-ownership was part of their life plan, but a quarter were unsure of how they would fund such a purchase.
Karen Barrett of impartial.co.uk, said: "Our research shows a lack of knowledge about the perils of the home buying process. First time buyers are less concerned with funding the purchase and more concerned with getting a foot on the property ladder."
Last year Scarborough Building Society advocated that people plan in advance for their children's future in light of increased tuition fees and growing difficulties for first-time buyers.
